Connect and Create at Waterford’s Conscious Crafting Workshops for Teens

All teens in Waterford! It’s time to leave your worries behind and de-stress through creativity. Organised by Waterford Cultural Quarter and Creative Ireland, we have two exciting workshops designed for younger teens (9-12 years old) and the those of age 13-18 during the Cruinniú na nóg festival on Saturday 15 June.

Cruinniú na nÓg (Gathering of Youth) is an annual national day of free creative activities for children and young people under the age of 18 in Ireland. The younger kids will enjoy building a joint coral reef from recycled material at the Friendship Café and the older teens will emerge into music and art with the Sing My Own Song workshop at the Waterford Gallery of Art. With three different time slots to choose from, these workshops provide the perfect opportunity to do something different and connect with fellow teens in a supportive environment. It’s free but the places are limited – see below for ticket details.

The Coral Craft workshop is designed for young teens to encourage their creativity while promoting environmental stewardship. Through the engaging session, participants will delve into crafting with a dual focus: transforming recycled materials into a big beautiful work of art and raising awareness about the vital need to preserve coral reefs for future generations.

The Sing My Own Song Workshop invites teens aged 13-18 from all backgrounds to experience the transformative power of music. The group will first create a joint playlist and will then immerse themselves in these tunes, letting the music guide their creative process. This workshop embraces sustainability, merging the beauty of music with the use of recycled materials to create a fun “speaker” for your phone. No need to be creative or arty, just come and have fun!

Waterford Cultural Quater is a project currently being managed by Waterford City & County Council and is led by a steering group of individuals and organisations based on the cultural and creative sectors. We hope it will play a vital development role for Waterford city centre, nurturing and attracting distinctive cultural and creative production and generating a dynamic cultural life for the area that enhances the city’s retail and tourism offering.
