A creative journey into Ogham and its meaning
This workshop invites participants to engage with Ogham, the ancient Irish script, through a hands-on and personally meaningful experience. Perfect for school groups, families, or those new to Ireland, it provides an accessible way to explore Celtic culture while creating a unique keepsake. Blending creativity, reflection, and tactile exploration, the workshop encourages participants to connect with history in an easy-going and interactive setting.
Each line and layer tells a part of the greater story.
Markings that matter
The conscious theme of significance underpins the session, beginning with a guided meditation on the marks we leave in time and their enduring meaning. Participants will reflect on how words and symbols carry personal and shared stories, while journaling and optional group sharing offer opportunities for deeper connection.
Distress, transfer, and inscribe
Participants will work with reclaimed pallet wood, painting and distressing the surface to evoke a sense of timelessness. Using transfer paper, they will apply a chosen Ogham word or name to their wooden marker before carving or outlining it with markers. Designed to accommodate all skill levels, the workshop focuses on simple techniques that encourage creativity and self-expression without pressure.
A lasting connection to time and meaning
By the end of the session, each participant will take home a beautifully distressed wooden sign featuring their chosen Ogham inscription. This piece serves as a personal reminder of the theme, celebrating how every mark—like the ancient script—carries significance in the story of time.
While this workshop draws inspiration from Celtic culture, it is designed as a creative activity rather than a historical study. The facilitator may not be of Irish nationality but brings a genuine passion for hands-on learning and the stories embedded in ancient traditions.
