Step into the world of Vikings with this creative Viking Eco-Warrior workshop—perfect for families visiting Waterford, Ireland’s oldest city. In this 2-hour session, families will come together to craft their own Viking warrior gonk using recycled materials.
This hands-on, eco-conscious activity is ideal for kids aged 9 and up, making it a great way for families to bond over creativity and sustainability. The workshop will guide participants through covering and assembling the tin can body to form a unique puppet, before creating Viking accessories such as swords, shields, and helmets. By the end of the session, each family member will have crafted their own Viking warrior gonk to take home.
In this 2-hour session, families will craft their Viking warrior gonk from start to finish. They’ll cover and assemble the tin can body, bring it to life with a big nose, beard and moustache, then make the accessories (like a sword, shield, and helmet). No previous experience required — just bring your imagination!
Materials and techniques explored include wrapping, gluing, cutting, and colouring. The use of recycled and natural items, such as driftwood sticks, wool, tinfoil, scrap fabric and cardboard, makes this a sustainable and eco-conscious crafting experience.
This workshop not only fosters creativity but also encourages mindfulness and patience. It’s a wonderful opportunity for families to spend quality time together, create something meaningful, and learn about sustainability in a fun, hands-on way. Please note, this is a family workshop, and all participants, both kids and adults, are requested to join in – you will be surprised at the experience!
