Just as a pebble finds its place on the shoreline, I embrace simplicity, flowing with ease through life’s currents

Simplicity shows up everywhere once you start looking for it. It is there in a single task done well, a room with nothing spare in it, a walk with no particular purpose. Life tends to fill itself up without being asked, and taking a little of that back is often as simple as choosing less rather than more.

Day to day, this asks you to slow down enough to notice what is actually in front of you rather than reaching straight past it. A stretch of sand, the weight of a small stone in your palm, the sound of water moving. None of it needs adding to. It only asks you to pay attention, which is a smaller thing than it sounds and still not always easy.

When you let that in, something in you settles. The pull to do more, fix more, chase more, loosens its grip a little and you are left moving through your day a little lighter than before, at ease with what is simply there.

Meditation

A gentle beachside visualisation built around a handful of smooth pebbles, each one quietly transformed into a fish, a bird or a shell. Its soft, unhurried imagery of sand, waves and salt air settles the mind on the simple beauty already present in small things.

Journal prompts

Take your time with these. There are no right answers.

  1. Imagine holding a pebble in your hand. Let it bring to mind a moment of gratitude, joy, love or appreciation. Write a few words to capture that feeling. Try doing this 3 times.
  2. Inspired by the pebbles you worked with, plan a pebble hunt of your own. Where could you go, when, and who might join you?
