Decorative candle jars with layered textures and personal touches
This workshop offers a calm, reflective environment for participants to explore subtle ways of bringing light into their surroundings. It is suited to small groups, community programmes, or wellness-oriented spaces, and can comfortably accommodate adults, teens, or mixed-age groups. The session encourages participants to slow down and notice their own responses to colour, texture, and light, without requiring prior crafting experience.
Each layer I place brings warmth and brightness to my winter days.
Gentle Glow
The session opens with a brief guided meditation, inviting participants to focus on inner warmth and quiet reflection. This sets the tone for the activity, providing a moment of stillness that encourages attention to personal energy and presence. Participants may be invited to record thoughts or impressions in a short journaling exercise, offering an opportunity to notice areas of calm, gratitude, or joy before moving into the creative process.
Materials and Method
Participants work with simple, accessible materials including glass jars, hessian, ribbons, twine, beads, charms, curtain netting, and festive tissue paper. The technique centres on layering and attaching these materials using runny PVA, with guidance provided step by step. The process allows for personal expression, as participants decide how to combine textures, colours, and embellishments. No previous experience is needed, and facilitators provide support and encouragement to explore individual choices within the session.
A Personal Glow
By the end of the workshop, each participant has a decorated glass jar designed to hold a candle, unique in its combination of materials and design. Beyond its decorative function, the piece carries a quiet reflection of the participant’s focus and attention, and can serve as a reminder of calm, warmth, or personal intention. The finished jar embodies both a tangible object and the reflective experience of the session, offering a small, meaningful presence in everyday life.
