Clay impressions and layered paper eggs for a seasonal Easter tree
This workshop centres on creating handmade Easter decorations using air-dry clay and folded paper techniques. It is well suited to community groups, adult education settings, libraries, retreat spaces and seasonal programmes where a calm, reflective activity is appropriate. The session combines tactile making with light symbolic exploration, offering a structured yet adaptable format that works well for mixed abilities and varied group sizes.
Create delicate air-dry clay ornaments with natural materials and 3D paper eggs, to hang on a natural Easter tree branch.
Quiet Signs of Renewal
The workshop is framed around the theme of renewal, drawing on seasonal shifts in nature such as new leaves, blossoms and emerging life. A short guided meditation introduces the idea of gentle awakening and fresh beginnings. Participants are invited to reflect on what they may wish to “hatch” or nurture in the coming months, using simple journalling prompts shaped like eggs. Reflection can remain private or be shared briefly in pairs or small groups, depending on the setting and time available.
Clay, Paper and Pressed Detail
Participants work with air-dry clay to roll, cut and shape egg forms. Natural materials such as leaves, small flowers or lace are pressed into the surface to create subtle textures and patterns. A small hole is added for hanging once the clay has firmed slightly. In a second stage, dried pieces may be painted with soft acrylic or watercolour washes.
Alongside the clay work, folded paper eggs are constructed by cutting identical egg shapes and gluing them back to back to form a simple three-dimensional ornament. Pastel and spring-toned papers are used, and additional details can be added with markers or light collage elements. No previous experience is required. The process is demonstrated step by step, with space for individual interpretation.
An Easter Tree in Bloom
By the end of the workshop, each participant has a small collection of clay and paper egg decorations ready to hang. These may be displayed on a communal branch within the session space or taken home to decorate a personal Easter tree. Each piece carries individual markings and choices, reflecting both the materials used and the quiet intentions considered during the session. The finished decorations offer a seasonal reminder of renewal and growth, extending the workshop experience beyond the day itself.
